Jax promises to give his person evenings happier than any night out. People may hesitate to adopt Jax, because of the cost. But the cost of being loved by Jax could be made up, with some trades. For instance, someone could burn up gas, cursing traffic, to get to a movie, buy a ticket and […]
In less-than-perfect English, Puff Ball is Scooby’s “brother from another mother”. The neutered, 10-month-old pups grew up in a home where several female dogs delivered puppies about the same time. The chaos produced pups that are used to a multi-species family, one loaded with cats, dogs and kids. The result is uniquely well-adjusted, social, adaptable […]
Mother Nature wisely makes dogs better and better. While breeders manipulate dogs, trying to create a look they can sell, Nature prefers to gift the world with what it needs. Scooby is a cross between a Beagle and a Brittaney Spaniel. He’s two of the most loving, family-perfect dog breeds, wrapped in one 10-month-old pup. […]
Instinctively people look at sad-eyed puppies and feel sympathy. Yet, River, a big, sweet, grown-up, socially skilled gentleman, may deserve more sympathy than any animal in the shelter. He’s the fellow who followed all the rules for five years, nearly half a lifetime, and still lost his home. And no one really told the Golden […]
Some kittens hear the call of the wild louder in their souls than others. Tipsy, who’s four months old, neutered and vaccinated, seems to be one of those. The shelter staff hasn’t been able to win his trust or real friendship. Tipsy is happy to accept their gifts of food, but only from a distance. […]
Butterbean, who’s only nine months old, is way too thin. She’s also way too exhausted for a kitten who should still be playing, enjoying her kittenhood. Instead, Butterbean is recovering from a trauma caused by lack of caring on her owners’ part. While she was half-grown, because she wasn’t spayed, little Butterbean had kittens. She […]
Pepe’s that classic tuxedo-wearing kitten who’s meant to add elegance and sophistication to a home. In Pepe’s case, he’s also meant to bring soothing purrs and reasons for his person to hurry home, to somewhere that’s a sanctuary. To summarize, Pepe is a little guy who, if he were human, might star in “The Bachelor”. […]
Sometimes people believe that they’re being kind, but the kindness they offer falls short. Eventually, the ones given the kindness, in this case a kitten named Chessie, suffer to death. Or, in 12-week-old Chessie’s case, almost to death. Chessie, her family and many other cats lived with an older gentleman, who fed them and let […]
Blaze, a 12-week-old, spayed kitten, looks like a blazing fire, but she’s even prettier to watch and, very soon, she’ll be much safer to touch. Right now, tiny Blaze is struggling to figure out what world she belongs in. Her mama taught her to be wild, terrified of people. But, for almost long enough, Blaze […]
Arnold, a neutered, strawberry-blonde boy, with an expressive face and a heart-on-his-sleeve attitude, needs people to understand something. His life depends on it. The Grant County Animal Shelter is a “No-Kill” shelter. Yet, Arnold senses, seeing real tears on staff members’ faces, that doesn’t mean every animal’s guaranteed his happily-ever-after. Being no-kill means that at […]

Thanks to our donations, the shelter was able to construct a unique outdoor play area where shelter cats can freely jump and climb a cat post or two, catch a few rays, and socialize with other cats and people.
