Spirit’s Story
When the man began shooting, eight-week-old Spirit probably trembled and tried to hide against the cold, bare ground. The frightened puppy must have heard her brothers and sisters cry out, one by one, as the bullets killed them. Then it was Spirit’s turn. She, too, must have yelped as the cartridge entered her tiny body.
As Spirit’s eyes closed, other men, these wearing uniforms, arrived. They made the killing stop. Then they discovered that Spirit was still alive and carried her to the shelter.
When Spirit arrived at the shelter, a Friends of the Shelter member carried her to the veterinarian. That happened because kind people had contributed to the Emergency Veterinary Care Fund. Now, Spirit is healed and safe in her forever home.
Yet, other unwanted animals are suffering and sad, just like Spirit. The wounds are different, but the fear, the pain and the hopeless feelings are the same. These sick and injured homeless pets need veterinary care to make the hurting stop.
If she could, Spirit would ask you to help those animals. They would be just as grateful as Spirit is. Any gift will make a difference. With this special kind of rescue, Spirit – and hundreds of other unlucky puppies and kittens – can have their pain eased, maybe for the first time in their lives.
